28 degrees outside are not the best conditions for an indoor contest….muggy air in the hall and the long time run format of 20 minutes made the riders feel like they were walking through hell! On the positive side, the beautiful weather gave us the possibility for running outdoor sessions! The new Bowl in Wörgl, the Cradle Stakepark in Brixlegg and Fidis / Gerys amazing backyard pool were shredded by Ivan Rivado, Jürgen Horwarth, Goofy and myself. Also, the rough Tyrolean street spots were ripped by Dominik Dietrich who just came back from the states, along with Michi Nadler and Ralf Edlinger.
…..and we have a new champion: Ivan “the Terrible“ Rivardo from Spain ripped it all weekend and won the comp with crazy tricks like bs flip tail grabs and fs flips from the big to the low part of the miniramp, transfers everywhere and amazing lines and trick combos! In 2nd place, was last years winner Jürgen “style & control” Horwarth from Germany who spent most of the day at the lake and arrived just a few minutes before his run! Jürgen is such a good skateboarder that he can rock without practice but he was not able to match Ivan this time. Jürgen definitely had the best lines of the weekend and did super smooth alley-oop bs ollies into the wall ride, big japan airs from the bowl into the deep part of the mini and skated the taco with no effort. In 3rd place, the same position for the last 3 years was myself, local Roman Astleitner with Madonnas from the miniramp to the bowl, foot plants on the wall, miller flips, a huge fs air over Adrian Buchwald and lots of other stuff I can’t even remember. In 4th place was Frenchman Guillaume Mocquin, who destroyed himself totally! This is a kid for the future, so watch out for this guy! Nose wheelie transfers, crailslide the taco. Crailslide and bs disaster on the extension during the best tick session. In 5th place and winner of the best trick session was another local, Oliver Gordon, who was pitched to the flat more times trying to land a huge nosegrab body varial. After some more tries he did it and won the richly deserved best trick award. During his runs he showed perfect flip board slides to fakie, hand plants and hurricanes over the spine and tail / lip slides trough the taco. In 6th position was my man from Tschek, Martin Jurasek, who is getting better and better every year…he is the man with the biggest airs and transfers! Fs 360s over the spine, blunt flip outs and nearly every air was close to the roof of the hall! The 5 guys from Tschek who came to Kufstein definitely would have won the party award if we would have had one (next year we will create such an award for sure!)
In 7th place was another local, Ralf Edlinger, who is normally more into street skating but knows how to rip trannies: transfer bs lipslide into the bowl and bs tailslide / smith grind the taco and sick fs feeble grinds. In 8th position was Patrick Munz from Germany with stuff like nollie heelflip to tail and nollie bigspin to disaster revert!
Finally, I want to say that I am looking forward to the 5th anniversary of King of the Ramp, next year which might just be its final run! Be sure we come up with something special!
Thanks to all the riders, sponsors and people who came from all over Europe to make this weekend in Kufstein so special!
